HAMBLET Dr. John Brewster Hamblet, Sr. died peacefully at Lowell General Hospital, Massachusetts, on June 1, 2014 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Hope Gurney Hamblet for 66 years, loving father of Joan L. Hamblet of Portsmouth, NH; John B. Hamblet, Jr. of Lowell, MA; Elizabeth H. Gardiner (James) of Southlake, TX and Laura H. Burke of Ft. Mitchell, KY. He was the devoted grandfather of seven and uncle to Margaret H. Sarner of Newark, DE. John was born in Lowell, MA on February 27, 1914. John was a graduate of Harvard University and McGill Medical School. He served as a medical officer WW II and retired from the Army Reserves as Lieutenant Colonel. Following active duty he served as the Chief Pathologist at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, OH for 27 years. After retirement, he volunteered at Hospice of Cincinnati, continued to sing in the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus and pursue his hobbies of gardening, beekeeping, genealogy and running. In 2008, he and Hope moved back to New England. John was a member of The Church of the Advent in Cincinnati for 50 years. He has touched many with his humility and compassion.
