Obituary

Mr. Joe Davis, Sr. was born on October 6, 1942, to the union of Oscar and Mammie B. Davis in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the second youngest child of eight children born to this union. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with his family in 1944. Joe Davis Sr. departed this life on Thursday April 7, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar S. Davis; mother, Mammie B. Davis; sister, Ida Davis and brother, Ed Davis. Joe graduated from Robert A. Taft High School. Shortly after high school he went on to serve in The United States Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge with an excellent rating for his service. After he was discharged from the Marines he went on to college at New York Institute of Technology where he received an Associate's Degree as an Electrician. Joe worked as a Law Enforcement Officer for a while then left to work for the City of Cincinnati as a Telecommunications Specialist where he retired in 1993 after many years of service. In 2004 he went back to work for the Fay Apartments as an apartment inspector until he moved into his own home in 2006. He was a member of the National Black Police Association and the Sentinals. Joe's last days were not easy. Always used to being in control, he found it hard to concede to the body's imperfection and the growing need to depend on others for support. Always a giver, now he had to receive. Always the one in charge, now he was the charge of others. Those who knew Joe knew that he was a loving father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved sports, he loved to travel and spent lots of time in front of his computers, but most of all he loved to be around his family and friends. Those who knew him knew has was a man of great wisdom, he was one of a kind. Mr. Joe Davis Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Marion Davis (Mike Smith), son, Joe Davis Jr. (Hope Davis) and daughter, Donyetta Heisel; seven grandchildren, Jeffery Davis, Joshua Davis, Rodneshia Valentine, Senessia Hall, De'Asia Neal, De'Asia Davis and Germaine Belle; one great-grandchild Nichols Valentine; sisters, Mrytrice Tippett-Davis and Rose Davis; brothers, Oscar Samuel Davis (Minnie Davis), JC Davis (Wanda Davis) and Larry G Davis (Cora Davis), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Special friends: Erma Harris, Rufas McCall, Kevin Walker, Roger Davis, Walt, Eugene Cottingham (Red), James Satterwhite (JR).
