With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Jewell Ann Johnson, who was called home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, and unwavering love.

Jewell was born on July 2, 1945, to Dorothy Mae Mixon and Howard Robinson in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Taft High School in 1963 before continuing her education at the University of Cincinnati, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement in 1977.

Jewell began her career at Shillito’s Department Store, where she met the love of her life, Houston Tyler Johnson. They were married on February 14, 1977, beginning a beautiful partnership built on love, faith, and family. She later joined UPS, where she faithfully served for 30 years before retiring.

Retirement did not slow Jewell down—it simply allowed her to serve in even greater ways. She devoted countless hours to the United Methodist Service Center, Starfire, and the Halom House always seeking opportunities to help those in need. A lifelong and devoted member of New Vision United Methodist Church, Jewell faithfully served as an usher and generously gave her time wherever she was needed. Alongside her dear friend, Cassandra Mills, she helped lead the beloved Thursday’s Kids Ministry, touching the lives of countless children with patience, compassion, and love.

Jewell had a remarkable gift for making every child feel seen, valued, and loved. To the many children she mentored, encouraged, taught, and embraced through her church and community, she became another mother, grandmother, and trusted friend.

Those who knew Jewell best will also remember her vibrant personality—she was spunky, full of life, and 100% loving. She spoke her mind without hesitation, never holding her tongue, yet everything she said came from a place of honesty and deep love. Her bold spirit, quick wit, and genuine warmth made her unforgettable and brought laughter and light to everyone around her.

She also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, volunteering, and was an avid bowler. Whether at work, church, or in the community, Jewell built lifelong friendships through her warm spirit, generous heart, and genuine love for people.

Jewell leaves to cherish her memory her husband Houston Tyler Johnson and loving children: DeAndra Loving (Albert Loving III), Sonya Zanders, and Eric Johnson.

Affectionately known as “Nene” to those who loved her most, she was a proud and devoted grandmother to Erika Forrest (Arturo Forrest II), Albert Loving IV, and Bianca Zanders.

Nene was also blessed with her cherished great-grandchildren: Diamond Loving, Albert Loving V, Robert Loving, Madison Forrest, and Mikaela Forrest, and her beloved great-great-grandson, Camden Timmons, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Whether they were related by blood or simply by love, everyone who called her “Nene” knew they always had a place in her heart.

She also leaves behind her beloved brother; her cherished sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, treasured friends, her church family, and the countless children and families whose lives were forever changed by her love, guidance, and faithful service.

Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we rejoice knowing that she has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Jewell’s life was a beautiful reflection of Christ’s love. Her compassion, generosity, quiet strength, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every child she encouraged, every act of kindness she extended, and in the family she loved so deeply. To us, she will always be Nene—our greatest cheerleader, our source of unconditional love, and the heart of our family. She will be forever missed, forever remembered, and forever loved.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 5:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.
