Jesse Randolph Rhodes (A Family Man)

Also known affectionately as JESS or Uncle "J". Jesse was born in Covington Kentucky on July 19, 1930, to the late Jessie Rebecca Rhodes and Robert Salee Rhodes. Jesse was peacefully called home at the age of 91 on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Veterans Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia following a sudden illness.

Jesse was baptized at an early age at St. Paul A.M.E. in Covington Kentucky and attended school at Lincoln Grant High School. He also served his country in the United States Army in 1951. After the service he worked for General Electric, Prudential, and New York Life Insurance Companies until he retired.

Jesse loved his whole entire family unconditionally (immediate and extended). The kids were very fond of him because of his wit and fairness displayed. He was the great debater, he walked to the library every morning to obtain information to debate about. He had an intense love for numbers, he could solve any number situation in seconds. He was a gentle person easy to be friends with but not a pushover.

He also loved jazz and sports. Jesse was the best unpaid comedian we knew, he maintained millions of jokes and his family and friends heard them all. He even starred at the comedy club once and shared a few jokes to others on a cruise stage.

He was energetic, joyful, witty, smart, compassionate, fearless, fair and was still dancing at 91 (two-step). Jesse was rich at heart, always appeared happy, lively, very rarely did you see him frown.  He never met a stranger, many felt they were friends the minute they met.  He would help anyone in distress if he could.

We will never forget Jesse Rhodes because he was one of a kind. He lived his life out loud and had the ability to brighten people's mood in many environments. He was loved immensely. Now the angels will be laughing harder than us. Jesse you are already missed.

Jesse was preceded in death by his father Robert Salee Rhodes, and his mother Jessie Rebecca Rhodes, brother, Darwin Crutcher Rhodes, brother Professor Robert Norman Rhodes, and two sisters, Jacqueline Dell, and Marion Harper.

He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, sister, Vera Yvonne James; Elizabeth Carter; Sandra Springfield; and his brother Clinton Maurice Rhodes (Rhea Rhodes) his four children, son, Duane Thomas, son, David Darwin Rhodes, (Nicole Rhodes), son, Norman Salee Rhodes, and his daughter Melanie Rhodes, his granddaughter Arika Napier, grandson, David Rhodes Jr, granddaughter, Zaria Elliott, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, on  Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Zion Global Ministries - West Chester, 9180 Cincinnati Columbus Road, West Chester  (45069).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow at  Landmark Memorial Gardens.
