Jean Williams was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 28 th 1930 to the union of Orange Friason and Pansy Friason. She attended Withrow High School and graduated in 1948. After graduation she worked for General Hospital for one year. She then started working for the Veteran's Administration as a file clerk and from there she worked her way up to Chief of Multifamily Division for Housing and Urban Development. She retired in 1985 at the age of 55. On May 26 1951 she married Lynum (Buddy) Williams and to this union their daughter Cheryl was born. At an early age Jean joined Greater St. John AME Zion Church when the church was on Barr & Mound, Downtown. Her believe and love for Jesus Christ was instilled in her by her mother Pansy and she became very active in the church. She was a junior usher and on the Adult Usher Board. She was Chairperson for the churches Women's Day Celebration several times. She was Treasurer of the Trustee Board and her most loved position in the church was being on the Deaconess Board which she was a faithful member for over 30 years. Jean was a faithful member of the church until her death.
Jean was also a member of Chums Incorporated which is an organization of women that come together and use their talents in service to the community. She was a member for over 65 years and was recognized last year as "Exceptional Chum Member." Positions she held have been President, Vice President, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian. On the National level, Financial Secretary and Chaired Budget & Finance Committee. Jean cherished this organization with all her heart. Jean and Buddy were also among the original organizers of the Mr. & Mrs. Couple Club where they built great relationships with great friends for over 60 years. The couples loved to travel together and would even take vacations together along with all the couple's children. Jean loved taking trips with family but especially loved taking special trips with Buddy. They have been north, south, east, and west. One of Jean's favorite trips was their cruise to Alaska. She is preceded in death by her husband Lynum (Buddy) Williams, mother and father Orange Friason and Pansy Green, sister Dorothy Williams, sister-in-law Christine Amlaw, and niece Ramona Willis. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Cheryl Norris, son-in law Tracy Norris, grandchildren, Ramona Norris and Terrance Norris, cousin Regina Pullum, nephews Raymond, George, Bobby and Paul Williams, dear friend Mary Francis Bowen and other relatives and friends.
Jean would always tell her family "You can do anything with God leading the way".
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Greater St. John AME Zion Church, 772 Whittier Street, Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
