May 24, 1929 – December 3, 2019
Jean Lewis was born on May 24, 1929, to the late James and Frances Russell. Jean was one of 13 children, her twin sister the late Joan McCollum preceded her death on December 29, 2011. She has joined all her siblings and parents in heaven. Jean leaves behind her common-law companion John (Mr. Pike) Lawson who has been by her side for more than 50 years. She also leaves behind three daughters, Sharon (James) Copeland, Carol Mukes and Ellen Lewis, three Granddaughters, Shannon Carlos, Chafonta Whatley, and Angela (Tim) Jernigan. She has 2 Grandsons James Copeland Jr., and Jordan Lewis. She also leaves behind an extended family Tish Sebron, Anita Parks and Barbette Thompson, and a host of friends, great-grandkids, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The early years of Jean's life were spent in College Hill, Steele Subdivision. The Russell family was very spiritual, and all the siblings were introduced to Christ at a very early age. Along with her sister Joan, Jean joined Greater Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor H. M. Smith.
Jean attended and graduated from Cincinnati Public Schools and continued her education receiving a bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati.
Jean will be remembered as being a very generous, loving and caring person. She worked for Memorial Community Center for many years as a Social Worker and an Early Childhood Teacher. She later would work and retire from Mt. Auburn Health Center.
Visitation is from 10:30 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the Walker Event Center, 3939 Reading Road (Corner of Reading and Paddock), Cincinnati (45229). The memorial service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
