James Russell Neptune was born on January 19, 1914, to George Addison Neptune and Lola Mae Neptune (born Skinner).George was born on July 26 1883, in Somerset Twp, Belmont County, Ohio. Lola was born on August 3 1885, in 16 Hill, Somerset Twp. Ohio. James had 4 siblings: Ralph Neptune and 3 other siblings. James married Virgina Neptune (born Stevenson) in 1938, at age 24. Virgina was born on February 2 1917, in Charleston, W. Va.. They had 2 children. James Russell Neptune, the owner of Pryor Funeral Home in East Bank, has died after a short illness. Neptune, a 61-year-resident of East Bank, died Tuesday in Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division. He was 85. He joined the staff at Pryor in 1938, two years after the death of founder James Pryor, and remained employed there until he and Charles Basham bought the funeral home from James Pryor's daughter, Bessie Pryor, in 1969. Basham retired several years ago. Neptune was affiliated with Pryor Funeral Home for 61 years. The funeral home celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1991. At the time, Neptune told stories of how undertakers evolved from being the people who carved caskets and buried people to professionals who also conducted funerals. Neptune was a member of the West Virginia and National funeral director associations and was a consultant with SCI Corp. A member of East Bank United Methodist Church, he was preceded in death by wife, Virginia K. Neptune. Surviving: daughter, Nancy Pharo; son, Don of Durham, N.C.; brothers, George of Kansas City, Kan., Ralph of Baltimore, Earl of Medina, Ohio, and John of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at East Bank United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Myers and the Rev. Frederick Sprigg officiating. Burial will be in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
