James Calvin Goss was born September 4, 1950 in Starr, South Carolina to the late J. C. Goss and Alma Gillard Goss Burke. His parents moved to Lincoln Heights and later to the community of Evanston. He graduated from Withrow High School in 1970. James received the baptism of the Holy Ghost under Bishop Malvin Clark in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He later joined Bibleway Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Abraham Swanson. He was a member of the Trustee and usher Boards and the Senior Choir. James worked two jobs: The City of Cincinnati MSD for 30 years, where he was known to his fellow City workers as "Big Jim", and Beechwood Nursing Home for 35 years. He was an exceptional worker and following his retirement from the City of Cincinnati, he worked at Cincinnati Steele Treating as a truck driver. James' hobbies included gardening, sports, fishing and most of all he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a kind man who was loved by many and he will be truly missed. James departed this life on February 1, 2012. He was 61. He was preceded in death by his father, J. C. Goss. James leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Pamela Goss; mother, Alma Gillard Goss Burke; affectionate children, Jawana Linn, Jamie Carolyn, Marlena and James Calvin Goss Jr (DonMika); devoted stepson, LaJohn Barkley; six brothers and three sisters, Willie Goss, Jeffry Goss, Kenny Goss, Wallace Goss, Chris and James Burke Jr (Jennifer); Alma Geraldine Reese, Darlene Rayford and Angela (Michael) Goss, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; one aunt, Margiree Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina. 12 grandchildren, devoted mother-in-law, Freddie McCollum; three brother-in-laws, Norris, Lornie (Lana) and Bruce; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Bibleway Church Of God In Christ, 3231 Woodburn Avenue, Walnut Hills (45206) with Rev. Carl Whitaker officiating.
