It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved James Earl Hocker, affectionately known to his family and friends as “Simon” and “Dog.” James was born on December 28, 1951, in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Rodie and Andrew Hocker.

James was a devoted father, grandfather, family man, and friend. He was a true hero whose courage, strength, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, kindness, and dedication to his family will forever be cherished.

Left to honor and cherish his memory is his loving wife, Carolyn Hocker. He also leaves behind his three beloved children: James Riggs, affectionately known as “T-Man”; Sabrina Brock, lovingly known as “Peaches”; and Sanchez. Each of them will continue to carry his light and the values he instilled in them throughout their lives.

James was a proud and devoted grandfather to Cierra, Naechelle, Brittney, Quenten, Tamyra, Amber (Robert), and James Jr. “T-T.” His grandchildren were a constant source of pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

James also leaves to cherish his memory eight loving siblings with whom he shared a close and unbreakable bond: Shirley (Hocker) Kongolo, Felton (Katherine) Hocker, Rosie (Hocker) Foster, the late Janie Curtis, Robert Hocker, Anita Mitchell, Timothy Shawn (Samantha) Singleton, and Alphonso Singleton.

He also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom he loved deeply.

James will be remembered not only for his caring heart and unwavering love for his family, but also for the heroic spirit he carried throughout his life. Whether through acts of bravery, selflessness, or simply being a pillar of strength during difficult times, he had a remarkable way of making others feel loved, valued, and supported.

His legacy is one of love, resilience, courage, and family. Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his love will remain with us forever. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 3:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.
