IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Ryder
Chisley, Jr.
June 17, 1956 – November 9, 2022
James Ryder Chisley Jr. June 17, 1956 - November 9, 2022
James Ryder Chisley, Jr. was born to the union of Miriam L. Wiggington and James Ryder Chisley, Sr. in Louisville, Kentucky on June 17, 1956. He was the eldest of four siblings.
James attended Parkland Jr. High School and at a young age accepted Jesus as Lord being baptized at the Bates Memorial Baptist Church. There he expressed his love for music and began singing baritone and tenor. James taught himself to play the piano. After moving to Cincinnati, Ohio James graduated from Forest Park Senior High School.
James observed his mother's and grandmother's baking habits and began to bake cakes and pies. He took this learning with him to the General Motors company where he worked for 38 years. He began to sell cakes and pies on the assembly line, so much so that the plant cafeteria was forced to ask him to stop competing with them.
James was transferred countless times; from Hamilton, Ohio to Pontiac, Michigan, and then to Lake Orion Michigan. Finally settling in Arlington, Texas.
Once after being laid off, James learned to drive a tractor-trailer and received his license. In Texas, James met two wonderful people, Mike and Patty Powell. They took care of him after he became ill.
James was very faithful in his church membership, uniting with the Southern Baptist Church in Cincinnati. He also attended The Welcome Baptist Church of Pontiac, Michigan, The United Baptist Church of Middleton, Ohio, and the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Texas.
James called himself a "work-a-cholic" working at The Harris South West Methodist Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas. James finally gave over to the Lord's call. Now he is resting from his Labors.
He leaves to morn his passing; three sons: Demetrius L., James, III, and Andre L. Thompson; one daughter, Zepporah D. Dean; two grandsons: Joshua and Antwan; two granddaughters: Kettra Dean and Ava Chisley; one great-grandson, Kinston; his father, Rev. J.R. Chisley, Sr.; a brother, Louis E. Chisley (Joan); two sisters: Marilyn A. Boyd (James) and Jacqueline Kinteh. James also leaves to mourn his passing: six nieces, three nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
