Izola Houston was born August 22, 1933 in Cincinnati, OH to William and Pearl Pennington. Izola answered the call of her Lord and Savior on August 8, 2020 and is now resting safe in the arms of God. During her period of transition, she was comforted in her home by immediate family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands (John A. Houston and Donald L. Washington, Sr.) four brothers (William, Jr., Benjamin, Edward, and Leroy) and two sisters (Shirley and Barbara Ann).

Izola was united in wedlock to her first husband on August 3rd, 1950, and this union produced three sons: Donald, Barnett, and Kenneth. Unfortunately, this marriage ended in divorce. Her second marriage was to her recently deceased husband, John A. Houston on January 2, 1965. This marriage lasted until her husband's death in February, 2018.

She was immensely proud of graduating high school and being able to take several college courses at Southern Ohio College. Education was near and dear to Izola. She would speak with pride about her Teacher's Aide positions at Taft, Woodward, and Withrow High Schools. She retired from the Cincinnati Board of Education and devoted her time to her passion of playing Bingo and ushering at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her three sons, Donald (Lori) Washington Jr., Barnett Washington, and Kenneth Washington.; six grandchildren Darren, Ashley, Treshon, Jazmer, Quantavim Washington and Damien Butler; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 26 W North Bend Road, Cincinnati  (45216).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
