Harold Eugene
Lockett
June 18, 1948 – April 25, 2026
Harold Eugene Lockett, born June 18, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio, entered eternal rest on April 25, 2026, with family by his side. He was the beloved son of the late Rev. John L. Lockett and Ida Trice-Lockett and was one of eight children.
Harold accepted the call to salvation at a young age and fellowshipped for many years with New Unity Baptist Church and later joined Christ Emmanuel Christian Church. He attended Hughes High School, where he excelled academically and athletically. A standout on the football field and in track and field where he earned the affectionate nickname, “Harold Lockett with the rocket in his pocket.”
After high school, Harold served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Following his service, he built a long career as a pipefitter and formed many lasting friendships through his work with Local 392 as well as his combat brothers at the local DAV chapter.
Harold was a dedicated father, a compassionate and caring partner, and a faithful friend. He was preceded in death by his siblings Robert, Shirley, John Jr. (Wanda), James (Marcella), Arthur, and Laura (Rev. Norman). He leaves to cherish his memory his sister Brenda (Lee), children Shanda (Norman), Tijuana (Brian), Kiva, grandchildren Jaylah, Morgan, Robert and Normandy, one great-grandchild Emersyn; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
An avid traveler, Harold was always ready for his next road trip or flight to a favorite destination. He enjoyed visiting his eldest daughter in Florida, family in Atlanta and vacationing in Jamaica and Aruba with friends. He took great pride in his grandchildren and was always there to cheer them on at graduations, soccer matches and track meets. Harold also loved music and was a gifted drummer and self-taught keyboard player. Through life’s challenges, Harold remained upbeat and encouraging—quick to share a smile, a warm hug, and a helping hand.
In his own words, "I lived a full life!"
