IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harley Lawrence
Larry Lloyd, Sr.
May 14, 1912 – May 15, 1959
Harley Lawrence 'Larry' Lloyd, Sr Birth: May 14, 1912 Bakers Run Braxton County West Virginia, USA Death: May 15, 1959 Covington Kenton County Kentucky, USA H. Lawrence Lloyd, 47, 6369 Gray Rd, Fairfield, President of Fairfield City Council since the formation of the city in 1954, died suddenly of a heart attack about 8:30pm Friday in St Elizabeth Hospital, Covington, Ky. Mr Lloyd, a salesman for the Francis H. Leggett Co., Cincinnati, was stricken late Friday afternoon when leaving the office of a client in Covington. He was removed to the hospital, and died a short time later. Mr Lloyd had been under a physician's care for several weeks, but his condition was not considered serious and his death comes as a shock to his family and many friends. He was born in Sutton, WVa, on May 14, 1912, he was educated in the public schools of that area, and for the last 19 years had been employed by the Cincinnati firm. He married Virginia L. Holden in 1935, and the devoted couple had made their home in Fairfield for the last six years. A member of Winton Lodge 614, F&AM, and a deacon in the Pleasant Run Presbyterian Church, Mr Lloyd was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Engineers Corps. In 1954, he was elected President of Fairfield City Council, and took office with the first council of the then new city. He was re-elected to office in 1956, and was completing his second term as the first and only council President in Fairfield. Larry Lloyd, devoted to his wife and son and faithful to the principles of his church, possessed a warm personality, with a delightful sense of humor and an interest in his fellowmen that was far above the average. He carried his responsibilities to the city above all other obligations, second only to his family, and devoted many hours toward the growth and improvement of the city. A loving father and husband, he was proud of his family and his dedication to their welfare was an inspiration to those who knew him. Mr Lloyd played a prominent part in the growth of Fairfield during the last four years, including a large role in the establishment of the city water works plant, the new municipal building and many other steps of progress in the area. He leaves his wife, a son, Larry Lloyd Jr, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday in the Pleasant Run Presbyterian Church, Crippin and Crest Rds, with the Rev Julian Gresham officiating. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park, Mt Healthy. Friends may call at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 7830 Hamilton Ave, Mt Healthy, after 2pm Sunday.
