Obituary

Gwendolyn Denise Hendricks entered eternal rest peacefully in her sleep at home on May 28, 2025, at the age of 59. Born on March 30, 1966, in Romulus, Michigan, Gwendolyn, lovingly known as "Denise" by many, was the youngest child of JoAnn Boyd and the late Robert James Hendricks, Sr.

Gwendolyn was a proud graduate of Taylor Center High School. She later pursued her passion for cooking and earned a degree in Culinary Arts from Cincinnati State. That passion blossomed into her own catering business, through which she touched many lives with her delicious food and welcoming spirit.

Gwendolyn had a vibrant, generous heart and a sharp wit. Known for her honesty and humor, she was often the one people turned to for advice, encouragement, or a good laugh. Her favorite sayings reflected both her practicality and her no-nonsense charm, including "Lack of planning on your part does not mean an emergency on mine" and "Common sense isn't always common." Her wisdom, often sprinkled with humor, made her guidance memorable and her presence unforgettable.

Family was everything to Gwendolyn. She instilled in her children the importance of loyalty, patience, and kindness, often reminding them that "if you don't have family, then who do you have?" Her love extended beyond her immediate family, creating bonds so strong that cousins felt more like siblings. Gwendolyn was always willing to lend a helping hand, and even through pain, she made sure her signature dishes like mac and cheese were ready for every family gathering.

Gwendolyn had many talents: a gifted chef, a woman who knew cars like the back of her hand thanks to her father, and a resourceful crafter who could turn cardboard boxes into a coffee table. She loved to cook, craft, travel, dance, and most of all, bring people together.

Gwendolyn is survived by her children: Isaac Hendricks, De'Asiah (Burkett) Boyd, Tantania Burkett, and her stepson Clifford Jones; her cherished partner Christine Jones; and her eight beloved grandchildren: Emery, Gabrielle, Kholby, Malcolm, Ava, Aiden, Anya, and Nylah. She also leaves behind her sisters: Anita (Hendricks) Pilgram, Tonetta Hamilton, and Sharon Fagan, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Hendricks Jr.

Gwendolyn's legacy is one of love, resilience, and strength. She taught those around her how to move forward with grace, to speak truthfully, and to embrace life with laughter even in the hardest moments. Her impact will be felt for generations through the values she instilled and the memories she created. Gathering of family and friends is from 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm, on  Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Walker Funeral Home - Mt. Healthy, 7272 Hamilton Avenue , Mt. Healthy  (45231).   The memorial service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 2:30 pm.
