Obituary

Celebrating the Life Of Gregory Earl Stemrick Sr. Born October 25, 1951 Entered Eternal Rest August 2, 2016 Gregory Earl Stemrick was born on October 25, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late William Stemrick and Mabel Berry. He entered into eternal rest on August 2, 2016, at Bethesda North Hospital. He was one of nine children. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Kenneth and Randall Turner. Gregory grew up in Lincoln Heights, Ohio, where he attended Lincoln Heights Elementary School and Lincoln Heights Junior -Senior High School. His graduating class of 1970 was the last class to graduate from the Lincoln Heights High School. In high school, Gregory was quite the athlete. He played basketball, baseball, football, and ran track. In his senior year, he was an integral part of the state championship teams in baseball (which he pitched a 7-0 record that year) pitching in the championship and basketball team. Following graduation from high school, he attended Colorado State University on a football scholarship. He selected Colorado State University even though he had scholarships for baseball, basketball, and track; but football was his passion. His many accomplishments include being an All-State and All-Conference football player; he was an inductee into the Buddy LaRosa Hall of Fame. After college, he went on to play professional football with a career that spanned over ten years. He played in the World Football League for the Chicago Fire; eight years were spent playing for the Houston Oilers, (Pro Bowl player in 1980) and the New Orleans Saints. Greg (Stem, Gaygee, Gaygay) loved life, people, sports, and FAMILY. He was the family 'grill master'. He always looked forward to his daily phone calls from 'nephew' (Reggie) all day long. Reggie and Greg spent their last outing this past June at Hooters. They had a ball! He also enjoyed their time spent running/walking in local parks when Reggie was in town. He was very special to Greg. Greg will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife of eighteen years, Gwendolyn Eulene, his sons, Gregory Stemrick, Jr. and Ryan Hodge; daughter, Malinda Dawson; his siblings: William (Joyce) Turner, Ronald Turner of Illinois, Gerald Turner, Reginald Turner, Larry Stemrick of Cincinnati, Ohio, and sister, Willadean Jackson of Southfield, Michigan; mother-in-law, Francine Hill; sisters-in-law, Linda (Mark Jr.) Buckner, Janet (Thayer Sr.) Blackwell, Priscilla (Clarence) Price of Cincinnati; brothers-in-law, Lionel Hill of Baltimore, Maryland, James Towns of Rayle, Georgia, Wade Hill, Jr (Vanessa) of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughters: Jala Stemrick, Khayriyah Stemrick, Amani Stemrick of Cincinnati; one great-grandchild, Journi.
