Obituary

Gregory Charles Gardner or Greg, as he was affectionately known to everyone, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 15th, 1962 to Shirley Gardner and Yonah Israel (who preceded him death). During his childhood years he was reared by his great Uncle, Charles Zachary and his wife Minnie G. Zachary. He later moved to Detroit and lived with his mother, sisters and brothers.  Greg attended Hughes High School and the University of Cincinnati where he graduated with an Associates degree in Social Science. Greg played basketball for his high school team and a couple of neighborhood teams. He loved sports and could often be found watching them late into the night whether it be football, basketball, wrestling or golf.  Greg loved telling jokes, often laughing so hard before he even got to the punch line, which he sometimes forgot which only endeared him to the many people he came in contact with.

At and early age Greg accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Second Chance Ministries Christian Worship Center, where he was an active member of the Praise and Worship team until he was no longer able to perform this function. This is also where he met his lovely wife, Stephanie. Greg's love for the Lord and his people could be seen in his actions. He always made sure that no one's birthday, anniversary or any special day was forgotten, as he would send out the appropriate card for the event.  Even as his health began to fail him, he would always try to be of service in some way.  He loved traveling and helping people become successful.  In his early years of employment Greg worked at 20/20 Juvenile Detention Center and the Tolbert house before becoming a Communication Center Coordinator at the Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired. He enjoyed working for the Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired. You could see him in television commercials and the side of many city buses promoting safety for the visually impaired.

Greg transitioned to be with the Lord at the age of 58, on Saturday evening September 11, 2021.

Greg leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated wife Stephanie. His daughters, Shannon Jones  (Only Grandchild, Samyia), Katelynn and Morgan Gardner. His step-children Kiyana Polk, Earl and James Berry.  Greg's sisters and brothers. Beverly Cole (who preceded him in death) Fred Gardner, (Evelyn) Kimberley Finley, Kenneth Gardner. William Gardner, (Starr) Michelle Jones, Danielle Dawson Ndekwe (John), Yonah Israel Jr. and one brother in law Stephen Wilkins, along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
