IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory Delman
Johnson
September 25, 1954 – July 2, 2025
Gregory Delman Johnson, affectionately known as "Chip," a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on July 2, 2025. Born on September 25, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Chip was the son of Robert D. Johnson and Eleanor (Ruth) Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, William Lowe; brothers William "Kenny" Lowe and Jeff Lowe; and sister, Penny Stallworth.
Chip earned his nickname as a premature baby "a little chip off the old block" and that name remained with him throughout his life.
He professed his Christian faith early and was baptized at Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Wesley V. Maxie, Sr.
A lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Chip grew up in the Evanston community. He had a deep love for music and was a dedicated member of the Inspirational Choir at Corinthian Baptist Church. As a youth, he and his friends would sing into the night, harmonizing to the sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, and other Motown greats. Chip was also a good dancer. At his parents' house parties, he was often called downstairs to perform his best "James Brown" moves.
Chip graduated from Withrow High School in 1972. Afterward, he pursued specialized training in welding and launched a successful career with a reputable local firm. Over the years, he held a variety of positions, including long-haul truck driver, delivery service provider, co-founder of a janitorial company with his sister Brenda, and employee at Goodwill Industries. He also proudly served in the United States Air Force for three years, demonstrating his strong commitment to service and country.
Chip's legacy lives on through his children: Gregory Johnson, Jr. (Marisa), Danielle Nelson (Brandon), and Heather Coleman (Dwight); his siblings Brenda Neal (Odell), Terri Joseph, and Christopher Lowe; and his cherished grandchildren: Skylen, Roslyn, Camden, Ava, Brooklyn, Miyana, Ali, and Nevaeh. He is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
During the last nine months of his life, Chip resided at Ivy Woods Care Center, where he formed strong bonds and was deeply liked by both residents and staff. Though our hearts ache at his departure, we find comfort in knowing he is at rest and reunited with loved ones who went before him.
