Collins
August 7, 1959 – April 6, 2026
Gregory “Chop” Collins, a beloved son, family member, friend and veteran, departed this life at 7:16 a.m. at St. Margret Nursing Home. He was born on August 7, 1959, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Jimmie “Red” Collins and Johnanna Stephens.
Gregory was baptized at a young age, laying the foundation for his lifelong faith. In his later years, he rededicated his life back to Christ, finding renewed peace and spiritual fulfillment.
He attended Taft High School in Cincinnati, where he graduated with the Class of 1977. During his high school years, Gregory was an active student-athlete who enjoyed playing both basketball and baseball, showcasing his love for sports.
Following graduation, Gregory served his country in the United States Army for three years. After completing his military service, he dedicated many years of hard work to his community through his employment with the Board of Education and W.M Powell Valves.
Known as “Chop” Gregory was a natural jokester who brought laughter and joy to those around him.
He cherished spending time with family and friends, especially while playing dominos.
At his retirement village, Gregory cherished the sense of community. He eagerly looked forward to game nights and Saturday gatherings, often cooking for his neighbors. He also enjoyed working at the village store, where he formed many meaningful connections.
He was preceded in death by: his brothers, Leroy “Doc” Collins, Jimmie Collins III, and Carl Darnell Collins; and his sister, Sharon Blunt. Left to cherish his memory: his sisters, Mary Ann Baggett, Cynthia (Dart) Lumpkin, and Chenel (Todd) Black; and his brothers, Ronnie Thomas (Angie) and Johnny “Speed” Collins (Jill). In addition to his siblings, he leaves behind his special friend, Valerie (Baby cakes), and a host of nieces and nephews, family & friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the New Mission Missionary Baptist Church, 4809 Ravenna Street, Cincinnati (45227). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy leaves behind.
