IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Gloria Jean

Hill

February 24, 1945 – May 24, 2025

Obituary

Gloria J. Hill was born on February 24, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Nathaniel and Mildred Hill. She was the sixth of nine children and a proud graduate of Hughes High School.

Gloria embodied strength, compassion, and a deep love for her family. She spent time living in Detroit, Michigan, where she worked in automotive restoration before returning to Cincinnati to build a successful career. She worked as a warehouse employee and forklift driver for Gibson Greeting Cards, and later served faithfully at Summit Behavioral Services until her retirement.

Raised in the Christian faith, Gloria attended Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church alongside her mother and siblings.

She was a devoted daughter, loving sister, and adoring aunt. Though she never had children of her own, she considered her nieces and nephews her children at heart. Gloria's generous spirit, warm humor, and larger-than-life personality made her the heart of every gathering. Whether bragging about her famous fried chicken or organizing playful competitions for her nieces and nephews to win money, she brought joy and laughter wherever she went.

At just 12 years old, Gloria was recruited by a women's slow-pitch softball team (Pasquale's). After much pleading by family and friends, her father finally gave his permission, setting in motion a remarkable playing, coaching, and umpiring career.

Gloria won numerous USSSA and ASA Regional and World Softball Championships with teams like Dana Gardens, Jake Sweeney, Empress Chili, and Motown Records. Known for her "vacuum glove," cannon arm, and blinding speed at shortstop, Gloria was a force on the field. Her coaches often said, "She didn't hit singles," and when she umpired, "You didn't question her calls!" Her excellence earned her a place in the Women's Softball Hall of Fame.

Gloria never met a stranger. Her warm heart and love for others created lasting bonds that will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Nathaniel and Mildred Hill, and her brothers, Nathaniel Hill Jr. and Freddie Hill.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving sisters: Estelle Delores Hill, Emma Walker, Carolyn May, and Earlene Hill; Her brother: Ronnie (Juanita) Hill; A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
