IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gertrude Alice
Brown
February 22, 1939 – October 23, 2015
Gertrude A Brown (Farmer) was born February 22, 1939 to James W. Farmer and Hester Farmer. She was 1 of 11 children. Gertrude was the product of the Cincinnati Public School System and graduated from Robert A. Taft High School in 1959. She went on to study Cosmetology and received a degree for Dietary Technician from Cincinnati Technical College. Gertrude accepted Christ as her lord and savior at an early age when she joined Peace Baptist. She continued her Worship for many years as a member at West Cincinnati Presbyterian Church. Gertrude was blessed in 1991 to develop the "Pregnant Moms Program" at the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency. She assisted so many mothers and mothers-to-be by reaching out on home visits and making sure they received proper care especially for their born and unborn children. She also assisted with the Headstart program in recruiting until she fully retired in 2005. Gertrude was a prime example of being educated, being a hard worker and most of all, loving unconditionally which equated to her belief in God. She enjoyed life as best she could with the help of her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald J. Brown, her three precious daughters, April Jenkins, Gayland Brown, and Chandra Brown. She had seven grandchildren, Anthony Jenkins (TJ), Darrius Brown, Damarkus Brown, Donald Riley (Toine) Jonathan Riley, Donica Brown, Biana Brown. She had 5 greatgranchildren, Maliyah, An'bri, Da'mauri, J'Airus, and Niala. Honorable mention as God Children (in her words) D'Andre Axle, Glibert Axle, Kenneth Wilson and Gary Wilson (Giles). She is also survived by her sisters, Murmith Chiles, Darlene Smith and Donna Farmer, her only surviving brother James Farmer and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Gertrude truly accepted everyone for who they were without prejudice and she enjoyed her life to the fullest until she rested on October 23, 2015. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, October 30, 2015, at the West Cincinnati Presbyterian Church, 1708 Baymiller Street, Cincinnati (45214). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
