Georgia was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Geraldine (Hicks) Robinson and George Robinson. She lived there until she was a teenager. Then, she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. As a teen, she worked at the Christ Hospital until she married James Coates at the age of 20. They had two children, Anna And Fernando. After their marriage, she met Herman George and they had a daughter, Diane.

Georgia was strong in her faith in God at an early age and was very immersed in her church. She was a member at New Hope Baptist Church, which was founded and led by her stepfather, J.M. Stephen and First Lady Geraldine Stephens. Georgia was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. In her later years, she married her sweetheart, Jesse Sweatt until his death in 2023 leaving her a widow. Although her work had many lanes, she loved her ability to be a caregiver the most. This was always first to her family and then to anyone else who needed it. At the age of 62, she retired very honorably after 10 years of working at Beechwood Home for the Incurable in Hyde Park. After that, she took in and raised two of her great-granddaughters: Heaven at seven months old (disabled) and Christionna at two years old. She did this until she was no longer able. Georgia loved being around her family and friends. Georgia had a very caring, loving spirit and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She would share her faith to all who would listen. She was a beam of light that shined bright and will be truly missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; four sisters, Deloise Washington, Margerite Washington, Patricia Robinson, Devenia Lewis; brother, Sylvester Robinson; her son, Fernando Coates and her daughter, Anna Coates. She leaves here in her memory, her daughter, Diane George; her great granddaughter, Heaven Coates; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
