IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evangelist Dorothy
Ann Jerdo-Turpin
September 23, 1950 – April 21, 2025
Evangelist Dorothy Ann Jerdo-Turpin was born in Decatur, GA, on September 23, 1950, to the late Pastor Saul T. Jerdo and First Lady Dorothy Mae Jerdo. Affectionately nicknamed "Bino," she was their only child and took great pride in caring for and supporting her parents.
She was the first member to join Beams of Heaven Baptist Church, which was founded by her father. God and family meant everything to her. Even while struggling with illness, she faithfully attended Sunday services. She was a proud and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved watching television, especially the Lifetime Channel and many Tyler Perry series. Dorothy always presented herself with style and class and was even featured in the Cincinnati Enquirer for her fashionable flair.
As an active member of her church community, Evangelist Jerdo-Turpin served in several capacities, including pastoral choir member, teen choir director, Sunday school teacher, Bible study teacher, and radio announcer on The Jericho Road Show on WTSJ. She was also a vital player on Beams of Heaven's softball, volleyball, and bowling teams.
Emerging from a lineage of preachers, she was destined for ministry. She later accepted her calling during an evening service at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Her powerful and encouraging sermons were truly something to witness. As an evangelist, her vibrant spirit and unwavering commitment to ministry made her a cherished presence in every endeavor she pursued—especially within Beams of Heaven's women's ministry group, the Women of Eden.
Evangelist Jerdo-Turpin was a proud graduate of Taft High School and attended classes at the University of Cincinnati. Her passion for music began early, inspired by her grandfather and nurtured during her school years at Taft, where she discovered her voice among friends. She often shared stories of participating in the school's annual talent show, performing as The Supremes with her girlfriends. Her gift would go on to bless countless lives.
As a powerful and devoted church vocalist, she led nearly 100 songs over the years with the Beams of Heaven Baptist Church choir. She sang with several groups including The Harmonizing 6, Love, Peace, and Joy, The Six Choir Union, and later joined Testament, a group founded by her beloved son, Pastor Anthony Burse Sr. Her love for God's music, her faith, and her community shaped a life that was well-lived and deeply loved.
Professionally, Evangelist Jerdo-Turpin retired early from Procter & Gamble and courageously followed her dream of entrepreneurship by opening Dottie's Car Wash in the Madisonville area. Her bold and fearless spirit, along with her trust in God, sustained the business for many years. She later pursued work in the healthcare field, managing caregivers who supported senior citizens. Ironically, she returned to Procter & Gamble, where her compassionate heart led her to work closely with teens with developmental disabilities. She formed deep, lasting bonds with many of her students, who continued to stay in touch long after her final retirement.
Evangelist Jerdo-Turpin was married to the late Herlin Turpin, and although widowed, she continued her journey with grace and strength. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pastor Saul T. Jerdo and First Lady Dorothy Mae Jerdo.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Pastor Anthony Burse Sr. (Darlene) and Kenneth Jerdo (Anicka); her cherished grandchildren (all of whom she nicknamed): Anthony Burse Jr. ("TJ"), Bria Burse ("Be-Be"), Kiara Jerdo ("Ke-Ke"), Alleysia Jerdo ("Le-Le"), and Kenneth Jerdo Jr. ("KJ"); her beloved uncle, Larry Jerdo (Cincinnati, OH); four aunts: Anna Jerdo-Brown (Detroit, MI), Evelyn Jerdo (Las Vegas, NV), Joanne Cash, and Jeanette Wright (Atlanta, GA); and two special sister-cousins, Elizabeth Stukes (Herman) and Mary Thompson (Atlanta, GA). She also leaves behind a host of loving family members and friends, and her church family of over 50 years—Beams of Heaven Ministries.
Evangelist Dorothy Ann Jerdo-Turpin will be remembered for her joyful singing, boundless compassion, and lifelong dedication to service and ministry. Her legacy of love and light will live on through all who were touched by her beautiful spirit.
