Esther was born January 28, 1935 to Richard, Sr. and Amanda Sales.  She was the ninth of twelve children: Maggie (deceased), Richard (deceased), Fulton, Leon (deceased), Talford (deceased), Wilferd (deceased), Ernestine deceased), Bernice, Edward, Beulah, Michael.  They lived on Hopkins Street across the courtyard from Mt. Olive Baptist Church, which they also attended.  She attended Stowe and McCall Schools.

Her baby brother, Leon, passed away at 8 months of age, after suffering from an intestinal illness.  Baby sister, Ernestine, passed away at the age of 3 1/2 from scarlet fever.

Esther loved the LORD and was baptized into the Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church by Elder Paul Cantrell in 1954.  She served on the Usher Board for nearly 50 years.  Her favorite hymns were Precious Memories and How Great Thou Art.  She never had children of her own, but loved and cared for a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great nieces over the years.

Esther loved to sew, cook, bake cookies, and especially fruit cakes for Christmas.  She was an avid sports fan and loved to swim and play volleyball.  She worked for many years, domestically and in food service for the Cincinnati Public Schools until her retirement in 1995.

She is survived by sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.  We will miss her greatly, but look forward to meeting her again when she is awakened by the Master.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Spring Grove Cemetery.

Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
