Ervin Edward
Mitchell, Jr.
December 12, 1963 – February 28, 2026
Ervin Edward Mitchell Jr. was born on December 12, 1963, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Ervin Mitchell Sr. and Louvonice Griffin. He graduated from Aiken High School in 1981. After completing his education, he moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1983 to 1987. Following his military service, Ervin returned to Cincinnati as a father and began the next chapter of his life and career. In 1988, he joined the Cincinnati Fire Department, where he faithfully served as a firefighter and EMT until his retirement in 2022.
Ervin was a curious man and a gifted storyteller who reveled in conversation and debate that sparked authentic exchange, genuine laughter, and the expansion of the mind. He enjoyed playing dominoes and spades, cheering on the Buckeyes, and fighting cathartic release at the gun range. Above all, he was a man of deep faith who put God first and devoted his life to loving and caring for his family.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Mitchell Sr. and Louvonice Griffin. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Tara, and his children: Keiana, Ervin III, Joshua (Tanya), Jalen, Jordan, and Makayla. he was a proud and loving grandfather to Tati, Raleigh, and Roman. He is also survived by his siblings: Orlando Mitchell, Robert Foley, Major (Katina) Foley, Lisa Foley, Regina Foley, and Nefertari Brooks, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, Faith family, and friends who will forever honor his legacy.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
