September 2, 1936 – August 7, 2025
Ernest Thomas Green was born in Moon Lake, Mississippi, to the late Mary Warford Green and Roosevelt Green in 1936. In his early years, the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he accepted Christ and became a dedicated member of Summerfield Baptist Church. He graduated from Douglass High School (Memphis, Tennessee) in 1954 and served honorably as a Human Resources Specialist in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Ernest studied business at Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio) which launched his outstanding professional career, including roles at Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (formerly Cincinnati Transit Commission), Cincinnati Public Schools, and Frisch's Restaurant, Inc. where he demonstrated leadership, enhanced operational efficiency and strengthened community engagement.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roosevelt Green (Virginia) of San Jose, California and Willie Green (Mozell) of Memphis, Tennessee; his twin sister, Edith L. Green Venable (David) of Los Angeles, California and his cousin Janie Mae Styles of Memphis, Tennessee.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Sheryl D. Mason of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ernest D. Green of Mableton, Georgia, Michael V. Green (Paula) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Patricia Y. DuBose (Francwau) of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Mary B. Green Smith; his beloved grandchildren, Orion A. Ruffin-Green of Atlanta, Georgia, Malachi O. Mason of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kiara J. Berry-Green of Crescent Springs, Kentucky, Sara Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nia I. DuBose of Columbus, Ohio and Esmiana Green of Cincinnati, Ohio; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, boundless love, and a life marked by kindness. Ernest possessed a rare gift for making everyone around him feel loved and cherished. His wisdom, warmth and witty sense of humor will leave a lasting imprint on all who knew him, and his memory will forever shine in the hearts of those blessed to have known him.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428.
