Erma Jean Houston was born on June 1, 1930 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Lorene Hunter and Eddie Parks. She departed this life on January 17, 2026,
Erma graduated from Howard High School in Tennessee. While there, she was a model student and she participated on the women's basketball team. Erma migrated to Cincinnati, Ohio with her father, where she met her "Soul Mate", Robert Eugene Houston. They were joined together in marriage on April 19, 1952.
Erma attended The Berean Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia and also studied with The Jehovah Witness in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also received The Senatorial Citation on behalf of the state senator, Catherine D. Ingram.
Erma was preceded in death by her daughters, Barbara and Deborah; brothers and sister, Muriel, Charles, Michael, Horace, Robert Lee, Maurice, and AdaMae; grandchildren, LaChelle and Anthony.
She will be laid to rest in a dress designed by her granddaughter, Kendra Pryor.
Erma leaves to cherish her memories, eleven children, Leonard (Sharon), Ronnie (Denita), Lorraine, Nathaniel (Cheryl), Patricia, Erma, Sara (Willie), Stephanie, Laverne, Robert and Angela (Laine); thirty-five, grandchildren, Taryn, Dorothy, Michael, Marcus, Keith, Neron, Ronneil, Shaana, Ronnie, Ronika, Ronnie Jr., Keshia, Lonelle, Lasandra, Greg, Crystal, Natola, Nathaniel II, Shawndre, Donta, Kenyette, Kalan, Naeisha, Jermaine, William, Laray, Elaine, Shaquanta, Doneshia, Edward, Inglesh, Kendra, Shanita, Shanice and Sean; one brother and two sisters, Greg, Nannette, and Phyliss; two cousins, George Jackson and Annie Mae Pope; eighty great grandchildren; fifty-six great great grandchildren; four great great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
She will be forever remembered in our hearts.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am.
