Elizabeth Welch was born November 7, 1919 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Benjamin Montgomery and Audrey Montgomery Tye. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Montgomery and Audrey Montgomery Tye, her step-father, Clarence Tye, husband, Byrd Welch and grand son-in-law, Tony Shelton. She spent her entire life in the Cincinnati Community. At the age of thirteen, she joined the First Antioch Baptist Church under the late Rev. W. H. Williams. She was a member of the junior choir, senior choir, and assistant secretary for the Sunday School. Elizabeth was an active member of the Mission Board for over fifty years and worked diligently until her health failed. She served under three presidents, Sis. Anna Vincent, Sis. Willie Gilmore, and Sis. Audrey Tye (her mother). God, her family and the church were her life. She married Byrd Welch on December 16, 1944. To this union two children were born, Wiona W. Berry and Nollene Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters Wiona W. Berry and Nollene Johnson, and son-in-law, Glynn Johnson, three grandchildren , Lisa Johnson Shelton, Shauna Berry Cooke (Kevin), Glynn Johnson, Jr. (Jennifer), six great grandchildren, Jaelynne and Jarin Johnson, Kyndal Cooke, M. Kayla Royal, and Kadonus and Tykiara Johnson, and her favorite niece, Leslee Montgomery-Mullins (Jerry), a sister-in-law, Daisy Clark, great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the Bethel Baptist Church - Alms Place, 2712 Alms Place, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment is in Spring Grove Cemetery at Cincinnati, Ohio. You may express online condolences at www.HerbWalker.com.
