IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth
Rainey
December 5, 1936 – February 9, 2014
Elizabeth Rainey was born in Athens, Alabama on December 5, 1936 to the late Joseph and Gussie Mae Rainey. The family lived in Alabama for a short while before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1945. Elizabeth received Christ at a young age. She joined the Bibleway Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Abraham Swanson (now under the leadership of Elder Carl Whittaker). Bishop Swanson called her his little shouting Rainey. Elizabeth served on the Pastor Aide Board for many years. Elizabeth worked at Cintas in the Laundry Department for over 10 years before her employment at the General Motors plant in Norwood, Ohio, where she retired in 1992. Elizabeth really loved her family and would do anything she could to help out. She liked spending time with her grandchildren, who all called her GaGa. This name was given to her by her first grandson, Antonio S. Rainey, because he could not say Grandma. This started all the children, neighbors and friends calling her GaGa. Elizabeth liked snicker bars, going to the thrift stores, listening to gospel music, Thanksgiving holidays, and talking on the phone to family and friends. She also liked to cook chitterlings, greens, yams, mac and cheese, and sweet potato pies. You name it, she would cook it and it was good. Elizabeth was nice and would help anyone if she could. Just don't rub her the wrong way, she would let you have it. Elizabeth was small in statue, but large in caring, sharing and loving. She was a strong willed person who raised five children by herself. She trusted God and taught her children to trust in God for everything. That you have done and taught us, we will truly miss you. We love you 'so' much. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Rickey Rainey and Allen (Diane) Rainey; two daughters, Wilma Rainey and Anita Gaines; eight grandchildren, Allen Walker, Amond Rainey, LaRay Rainey, Whitney Gaines, Antonia Rainey, Larnell Gaines, Chavonna Rainey and Ciara Rainey; give great-grandchildren, Ashaira Rainey, Terrell Armstrong, Ashonti Rainey, Karina and Kamille Walker; one brother, JosephRainey; two sisters, Willa Morrell and Catheraine Rainey; one aunt, Lizzie Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gussie Mae Rainey; daughter, Arlene M. Rainey-Poelinitz; grandson, Antonio Shondale Rainey; son-in-law, Larry D. Gaines; sisters, Emma Bradshaw and Betty Barksdale; three brothers, Robert Lee Rainey, Howard Rainey and David Rainey. RIP nephew, Melvin Barksdale
