IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth O.
(Miller) Lewis
June 9, 1932 – August 28, 2023
Elizabeth O. (Miller) Lewis June 9, 1932 - August 28, 2023
It is with sadness we announce the transition of Elizabeth O. (Miller) Lewis, age 91, of Cincinnati, Ohio, who entered eternal rest on Monday, August 28, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Liz, as she was commonly known to friends and family, was born on June 9, 1932 in Cincinnati General Hospital to parents Joe T. Miller and Kathryn Miller.
After graduating from Woodward High School, she began working as a telephone operator at Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company. Liz excelled and soon climbed to a senior management position as one of the organization's first African American employees to hold a critical leadership role until her retirement in 1982. Never one to relax after retiring, Liz remained active in voter registration, and was a staunch supporter of the Greater Cincinnati Democratic Party.
As a young lady, Liz loved a good party and always maintained a stylish demeanor with a glowing personality that could light up a room. She was always a no-nonsense individual, volunteering at church for as long as her health permitted. She really loved church services, and attended Calvary Methodist Church prior to Allen Temple A.M.E.
Liz enjoyed travel, and for a time, lived on Oahu, Hawaii and in Turkey with her late ex-husband John Lewis. An avid sports fan, she attended many Cincinnati Reds baseball games at their original stadium, Crosley Field, and rarely missed a televised Bengals game.
Liz will rest in peace with her brother, Joe E. Miller, his wife, Ella L. Miller and sisters, Mila Baker and Gertrude Miller Penn.
She leaves behind nieces Lisa Miller Carpenter, Diane Miller Chapman; nephews Darryl Baker, Chuck Baker, Joseph Miller, Gary Miller, and Ruel Odom, as well as many grand nieces and nephews she adored.
Visitation is from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Allen Temple AME Church, 7030 Reading Road, Cincinnati (45237). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 12:30 pm.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, 11200 Princeton Pike, Springdale, Ohio 45246.
