PASTOR MATTHEW LEE MAYE, SR. was born on July 7, 1944 in Coatopa, Alabama to Felix and Zora Maye Sr. Pastor Matthew Maye (Matt) died peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Hamilton, Ohio at age 74.

Pastor Maye was a multi-talented tradesman. He was foremost known for his drywall skills. He also taught many young men this trade.

Pastor Maye was an active and dedicated member in the Sunday School department at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ. He was a praying man whose favorite pastime was witnessing to all. While at Christ Temple, Elder Maye was ordained in 1992 under the auspices of the late Superintendent Willie D. Mack and the late Bishop R.L. Chapman. For a short period, he was the Pastor of the Temple of Hope Church of God in Christ in Madisonville, Ohio.

In 2004, Pastor Maye began work at House of Prayer Church of God in Christ in Hamilton, Ohio. Bishop Clifford L. Kimbrough, Prelate, Ohio Northwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Pastor Maye was a generous, witty and dedicated individual who loved fishing and traveling to visit family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Felix and Zora Maye Sr.; sister: Lola Maye; brothers: Petroleum and Jeremiah Maye.

Pastor Maye is survived by his wife, Paulette Maye; children: Lorenzo Dykes, Boston, Massachusetts, Matthew Maye, Jr., Hamilton, Ohio, Michael Maye (Jennifer) Hoover, Alabama, Kenneth Sherman (Sharon) New Miami, Ohio, William Sherman (Melissa) Oxford, Ohio, Carletha Sherman Hamilton, Ohio, Timothy Sherman (Felicia) Pickerington, Ohio, Willie Parson 4th Dayton, Ohio, Calvinnee Simmons Hamilton, Ohio and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Siblings, Pastor Lucy Dunnom (Pete –deceased), Pastor Rose A. Brinkley (Jimmie – deceased), Felix Maye Jr. (Malinda), Ophelia Campbell (Illinois – deceased), all of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Maye (Jane) Springfield, Massachusetts and John Maye (Barbara) Houston, Texas.

Pastor Maye will always be remembered for his generosity of spirit and for his fearless and unwavering commitment to the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation is from 11:00 am until 12 noon, on  Friday, February 1, 2019, at the Christ Temple Church of God In Christ, 577  S. Second Street, Hamilton  (45011).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at noon.

Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park, 2421 Princeton Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.
