Dorothy Lee (O’Field) Simpson was born on April 5, 1937, the only child to the late Fletcher O’Field and Ora Dee (Nelson) O’Field-Smith in Toomsuba, Mississippi.

Since the age of 8 she wanted to be a nurse. She wrote an essay on wanting to be a nurse when she grew up and was asked to read her essay on a Birmingham radio station. During her elementary and up through high school, she enjoyed and participated in Ballet, Tap and Modern dance. As a student at Parker High School, she was Drum Majorette and very talented with the Baton. She began her first means of employment working in a Tea Room where she accepted a position typing the menus because she knew how to type and this was better than working in the kitchen.

Dorothy attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Clarksburg, West Virginia and graduated in 1960. She was asked to begin her Nursing vocation at Dartmouth but chose Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio to be close to her husband, who was stationed in Fort Campbell, KY.

She and Joe had four surviving children (twin daughters died of premature births). With their growing family, they purchased a house in Mt. Healthy, Ohio. Approximately 8 years later, Dorothy began working at The Christ Hospital first, as a Unit Nurse then promoted to Head Nurse and 33 years later retired as the Director of Nursing.

During this time, she also wrote and published several articles in various nursing magazines.

Dorothy Lee Simpson was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and admired by many. She loved a good joke and continued to dance with the Golden Tappers during her retirement.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters and sons, Jerita Simpson, Michelle (Mark) Clayton, Jeff Simpson and Mike (Joni) Simpson. Grand Children, RaSchell (Brian) Simpson-Jackson and Phoebe (Tim) Davis, Claire Simpson and Robert Simpson; and Great-Grand Children, Anastasia (Kalen) Hopkins-Koenig, Nyla Simpson and Leo Simpson and a host of other relatives and friends who consider themselves Blessed to have known Dorothy Lee (O’Field) Simpson.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2014 Springdale Road, Mt. Healthy (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.

She will be laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Mt. Healthy, Ohio 45231.
