IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Lavonne
Pegues
May 7, 1950 – November 20, 2025
A Time to Be Born Dorothy 'Lavonne' Pegues, a cherished child of God, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 7, 1950, to Lettie Tillman and William Sanders. Lavonne was the second eldest of ten children, raised by Lettie and the Chester Henderson. Lavonne's childhood was deeply rooted in family, faith, joy and love. She shared her childhood with six brothers and three sisters, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. The beautiful name Dorothy was a sentiment of love from our aunt, Dorothy C. Williams, with whom Lavonne spent many summers with. The two formed a close bond and It's here where Lavonne learned one of her favorite pastimes, cooking. She put lots of love and devotion into creating meals.
A Time to Love and Work At the tender age of 19, Lavonne married her high school sweetheart, Otis Williams, and the union was blessed with three beautiful children: Lorraine, Jason, and Loria. Later in her twenties, a love story blossomed with her and serviceman Solomon James. Through that union they were blessed with Solomon Jr. and Lorelle. Lavonne obtained a high school diploma at Harrison High in Chicago, IL and pursued an education in healthcare, earning a Nursing certification. Lavonne proudly served in Physical Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Center of Chicago (RHIC), assisting patients on their journey to recovery. While offering skilled training, she gave hope and sincere compassion to all that was in her care. Her nurturing gift was evident throughout her career and in her roles as a mother, mentor, and friend.
A Time for the Lord Raised by parents who loved God and were active members of the Baptist church, she learned at a very young age to follow the Lord's path. As an adult, Lavonne read daily devotionals and engaged in a disciplined life of prayer and reflection. Faith guided her steps and strengthened her daily walk with the Lord. Lavonne relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1994 where she later became a dedicated member of St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church. She worshipped God through the word and song, which sustained her through the joys and trials of life.
