Dr. Dorothy Dolly Hearn Birth: Jul. 6, 1962 Death: Jun. 6, 1990 Augusta Richmond County Georgia, USA Dorothy (Dolly) Hearn, 27, an Augusta dental student, was found dead by her roommate at their apartment. A .38-caliber handgun was found in her lap. Her death was initially labeled a suicide, but Richmond County investigators could not reach that conclusion, and the case remained open. Hearn was dating Barton Corbin, a student at the Medical College of Georgia, in 1990. Four days into jury selection for his trial for the murder of his wife, Georgia Dentist Barton Corbin suddenly decided to plead guilty to the murder of his wife Jennifer Corbin and the murder of his former girlfriend Dorothy 'Dolly' Hearn in 1990. In the end, not even death and a 16-year delay were enough to keep Dolly Hearn from getting the degree she earned from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Her professors, her family and her 'other family,' her classmates from 1991, saw to that. Dorothy Carlisle 'Dolly' Hearn was awarded her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree on April 27, 2007 by MCG President Daniel W. Rahn in a ceremony that included more than a dozen family members and about 20 classmates. It was the first posthumous degree MCG has given. The family of Dorothy 'Dolly' Hearn established a scholarship in her name: The 'Dolly' Award, that is awarded annually to a student in the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. She was survived by her mother, Barbara Hearn, and her father, Dr. Carlton Hearn of Washington, GA; brothers Gil Hearn and Carlton Hearn, Jr.; and other relatives and friends.
