Dorothy Mae was born on April 2, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas to Mary Ophelia and Roy Simmons. The family moved to Segura, Louisiana but later settled in New Iberia. She was christened in the Catholic faith. She was affectionately known as "Dot" or "Dottie" to family and friends. Like her Mother, she had a loving heart and giving spirit. In 1963, she met and married Eugene Cole and converted to the Baptist faith. In this union they were blessed with three children, Wayne, T.J. and Rose. The young family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio when Eugene moved from Full time to Reserve status in the United States Navy. She was a strong woman with a great work ethic. Dorothy passionately worked for private clients, cleaning homes and businesses for many years. She gained meaningful employment at Butternut Bread and retired after nearly 30 years of service. She never met a stranger and formed many long-lasting relationships. She loved interior decorating, playing bingo, spending time with family and friends, and could shop until you drop! She was an avid gardener and very creative in nature. She enjoyed hosting an annual 4th of July celebration for family and friends. This gave her the opportunity to cook her favorite dishes to share with loved ones. She also had a very outgoing personality and loved to dance. She was a great bowler and competed in bowling leagues. Dorothy simply loved being a grandmother. She was not only a grandmother to her own grandchildren, but to many others. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Ophelia and Roy Simmons, her brother Neville (Buddee) Johnson, brother in laws Jerry and Virgil Cole, Robert Clark, Carey Huff, niece Jackie Carrillo, great niece Jessica Carillo. She leaves to cherish memories, her husband Eugene Cole, Sisters Belle, Susie, Carol, Betty and Christine, Brother, Ronnie (Mary), her children, Wayne(Angie), T.J., and Rose (Wes). Grandchildren, Rickey, Ashley, Kandis, Sharonda, Chelsey, Teejai, Janae, Cam (Megan,), Keaunte. Great grandchildren Alana, Nashyia, Dezmond, Demitri, Alyssia, DJ, Titus, and Aria. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the El-Bethel Baptist Church, 3869 Vine Street, Cincinnati (45217). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens , 2145 Compton Road, Mt. Healthy, Ohio 45231.
