Obituary

"I am made by the grace & favor of the Lord God "

Dorothy Baldwin was born on April 22, 1931 to Charlie and Doshie Shine in Reynolds, Georgia, the second oldest of five children. Those left to celebrate her life, mourn her loss, and cherish her memory are her surviving sisters and brother Cora Bradshaw, Nora McCullars and Muhammad Abdul Aleem. She also has a living Aunt Violet (Sweet) Bradley who is not just her youngest surviving aunt but who she loved as her best friend and confidante.  Her other brother Moses Shine is waiting along with their parents greeting her at the gates of heaven right now.

As a child Dorothy growing up attended the Harriet Beecher Stowe School with her relatives. In her young adulthood life, she was a hard worker in the hospitality industry at the Cincinnati Hotel and she was a part-time cook/server at Vine Street School.

Dorothy started her own family in 1955 when she became the beautiful bride to her loving husband, Alforence Baldwin (deceased). From this blessed union they have four children Constance Baldwin, Keary (Maxanne) Baldwin, Bridgette (Kevin) Cook and Felise Baldwin Walker and now have several grandchildren-Keary Baldwin II, Julius Baldwin, Jalen Cook, Myles Baldwin, Jala Cook, Kennedy Walker, Phoebe Walker, Jessica Williams, and her great-grandchildren Irredessa, Juliani, Yeari, Zari'Anna, Delmico, Zy'aire, Za'Niyla, Serenity and loving host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives, church family and friends.

She has been a faithful member of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Cincinnati.  She was a member of the New Hope Vocal Chorus of Ohio where she proudly marched down the aisles on Sundays to the choir loft to hold down the vocals with her alto melodies and sway. She also served and volunteered in the church kitchen with the hospitality ministry.

She has always been known for her charismatic and strong outspoken demeanor. She would proudly say to anyone "Hello…My name is Dorothy Baldwin" when she initially greeted you and would depart you by saying "And you have a blessed day". She had a passionate hobby with floral gardening. She had "THE" untouchable green thumb in the Forest Park neighborhood and over time winning countless lawn and garden beautification flag awards for years until she was finally honored to be a judge before she became ill. She had an eye for fashion so you would always see her with the best church attire and sporting trendy styles as the Diva she was.

She loved being around her family and friends and at any given moment you would catch her doing a dance move or two as well as being the life of the gathering. She was the best cook with her secret recipes to delicious food but especially known for her famous homemade fried corn, that banging barbeque sauce, and those mouthwatering sweet potato pies that will be truly missed. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother aka "NaNa". She was always at her children's important activities and events as well as became the neighborhood mom to many at the school bus stops and the best School Sports Booster Mom in the stands cheering for all the kids. She was known to many as… Dottie, Shug, Dot, Mama B., Mrs. Baldwin, Aunt Dottie, Mine, Mom and Ma. Her love, joy, affection, companionship, kindness and thoughtfulness will be missed by all.
