IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothea
Lane
September 30, 1952 – April 23, 2020
Dorothea Elaine Young-Lane "Doe", age 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on September 30,1952, Doe was the daughter of Donald E. Young and Betty J. Young. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in New Castle, PA. Doe worked in sales and as an administrative clerk at the former Strouss Department Store and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. respectively before moving to Cincinnati, OH in 1985. Later, in Cincinnati, OH she worked at Shapely Clothing Distribution and served for many years as a Secretary and Board Member of the Centennial Estates of Lincoln Heights, OH.
Doe was a 1970 graduate of Vo-tech High School of Lawrence County. However, during the turbulent late '60s, when many privileges were still being denied to African-American students, a plan was proposed to have Black basketball players for New Castle High School (Ne-Ca-Hi) boycott the team. It was that threat of a boycott that cleared the way for Doe to become one of Ne-Ca-Hi's first Black varsity cheerleaders. She was also an avid Steeler's fan.
Doe will be dearly missed by her: sons, Alan McHenry and Jeremy McHenry; grandchildren, Erica, Sha'Mya, Omari, Jayden, J'Aira, Julian and Alandonal; siblings, Donnie, Wilbur (Weeb), Terry, Betty, Danny, John (Champ), Judy and Michael; aunts, Elener Young-Crunkleton and Roberta Young; and, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other family members and friends--including numerous children and young adults in the Lincoln Heights, OH community for whom she provided a home and safe haven, and the many others who simply knew her as "Aunt Doe."
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents and eldest son, Michael James Lane, Jr.
