IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Dornita Barbette

(Monroe) Stewart

May 12, 1977 – April 15, 2025

Obituary

Dornita "Dee" Barbette Monroe-Stewart, 47, of Covington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025. Born on May 12, 1977, in Covington, Dee was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and loyal friend.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin Stewart; her two beloved sons, Taymon Monroe and Daemon "Daedae" Monroe; her mother, Dorothy Monroe; her father, Larry Frazier; her godmother, Delta Payne, and godfather, Chuck Carr; as well as her siblings: brother Jason (Mary) Monroe Sr. and sisters Tiffany Irby, Ladora Blair, Angel Frazier, and Dion Cherry.

Dee shared an especially deep bond with her cousin Minika Monroe and her aunt Anita Monroe. She also had a special love for her nieces and nephews: Jaelyn Walz, Jason Monroe Jr., Raelyn Monroe, Zackee'l Welch, Azyah Welch, Imani Irby, Zontaesha Irby, Alexandria Blair, Abigail Montague, Raelyn Montague, Patrick Blair, Raven Blair, Allisha Blair, Matthew Blair, Diamond Thomas, Edward Patterson, Jabari Williams, and many others. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Dion Thomas "DJ". Each family member held a profound place in Dee's heart.

Dee attended Holmes High School, where she played basketball, soccer, participated in ROTC, took AP classes, and proudly graduated a year early in 1995. She continued to pursue her passion for business and numbers, earning her Associate Degrees in Business Management, Business Administration, and Accounting from Gateway Community College in May 2013.

A woman of grace, quiet strength, and fierce love, Dee was deeply committed to her sons, Daedae and Taymon. Her laugh, her warm hugs, and her unwavering support will forever be remembered by all who knew her.

Special recognition goes to close friends Dee loved like family and shared an unbreakable bond with: Annette (Larry) Taylor-Johnson, Trina (Corey) Jackson, and Brian Burris.

Dee was truly one of a kind, making friends who became family wherever she went. She loved playing darts and took great pride in her role as a McDonald's manager from 2015 to 2021. In the 2021–2022 school year, she worked at Holmes Middle School as an Instructional Assistant for special needs students, a role that showcased her kindness and patience.

In March 2022, Dee faced an immense health battle, suffering septic shock, which resulted in the loss of her limbs. After months of recovery, she was joyfully welcomed home by her family in June 2022. Though the challenges continued—with a diagnosis of shingles in August 2022 and esophageal cancer in November 2022—Dee's spirit remained unbroken. By early 2023, through God's grace and her own unyielding strength, Dee overcame both battles.

Dornita's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
