On Friday, October 17, 1952, the late Elizabeth Marie Mitchell gave birth to Dexter Wayne Mitchell, the oldest of seven, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dexter accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was Baptized at an early age. He received a formal education through the Cincinnati Public School System. Throughout his lifetime Dexter worked many jobs. However, his time employed with Cincinnati Area Senior Services seemed to bring him the most joy. While doing what he loved – driving and delivering meals to the sick, shut-in and to the elderly he forged lifelong friendships and the admiration of many. On July 6, 1971, Dexter was united in Holy Matrimony to Denise S. Murdock, who preceded him death. Their union was blessed with two children, Alisha and Veno. Nearly two decades ago, in front of family and friends, Dexter married Valerie D. Handy. This union created a "blended" family with a total of seven children, which was sustained by unconditional love. On Friday August 1, 2014, Dexter was delivered from cancer into God's everlasting paradise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Mitchell and William Buckner, four siblings and two grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his life, his love and his spirit: his beloved and devoted wife, Valerie; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Handy; sister, Sharon Mitchell; brother, Tony McQueary; brothers-in-law, Eric Lewis Sr. and Lindell (Adrienne) Handy Sr; sisters-in-law, Karen Butler and Annie Johnson; sons, Veno Mitchell (Celeste), Darius Handy, Lynkoya Handy (Andre Miller) and Domynyk Gilliam; daughters, Alisha Mitchell, Christel Handy and Davina Humphrey; two sons in Christ, Nicholas Lampkin and Billy Marshall; aunt, Betty Higgins; uncle, Ovie Mitchell II, nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
