Dela Gibson Porter, age 96, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was born on March 28, 1928, in Macon, Georgia, the eldest of three children born to Charlie Gibson and Ilah Young Balkcom. Dela spent her early years in Macon, Georgia, where she attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School. After her family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, Dela accepted Christ and continued her faith-filled journey. She remained in Ohio for most of her life, eventually settling in Cincinnati, which became her beloved home for the past 70 years. Dela was the family historian, diligently preserving family memories through photographs and recorded conversations. She cherished family connections and was known for her deep knowledge of family history.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Gibson, and her brother, Samuel Gibson (Williebel).

Dela is survived by her sister-in-law, Williebell Gibson, of Phoenix, Arizona, and by her loving nieces and nephews: Richard Gibson and Darron Gibson of Jackson, Michigan; Gerald Gibson (Royace) of Noblesville, Indiana; Douglas Eric Gibson (Josie) of Hillsboro, Oregon; Sheliah Conchola (Verchel), Sonja Gibson, and Sedera Gibson, all of Phoenix, Arizona.

Dela will be fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity, and her unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned.  The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.
