Delbert Gilliam Jr. was born May 29, 1966, in Winton Terrace, Ohio, to the loving union of Ruby Torrey Gilliam and Delbert Gilliam Sr. After a life filled with love and laughter, he was called home to be with the Lord on August 18, 2026, at the age of 60.

Delbert was affectionately known as “Lil Del” by family and friends. Delbert grew up in Winton Terrace and attended Walnut Hills High School due to his academic achievements. Shortly thereafter, he attended Woodward High School, where he graduated. He later decided to attend barber school.

Delbert was also known as one of the best general contractors in numerous cities and states. He was an entrepreneur who owned two businesses, “Gilliam Drywall & Remodeling” and “No Sleep Janitorial.” Delbert was also a natural-born hustler with an unparalleled work ethic. He was known to be a trendsetter who shined in his own light. Delbert was spontaneous, loving, strong-willed, and funny, as well as having the heart of a lion.

Lil Del enjoyed boxing, basketball, football, and fishing. He had a special love for music, especially reggae. Delbert would dance from sunup to sundown to all Bob Marley songs. One of his favorite songs was “Turn Your Lights Down Low.” He was a firm believer in, “If you put your mind to it, then you can do it.” Delbert didn’t allow hard times to stop him from being a great provider for his family.

Delbert was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ruby Torrey Gilliam; his father, Delbert Gilliam Sr.; his two sisters, Marcella Winslow and Freda Gilliam; and his brother, Daylin Gilliam.

Delbert also leaves behind four siblings: Theresa Torrey, Donte Gilliam, Stephanie Gilliam, and Delbert “Scooter” Gilliam.

Delbert leaves behind the love of his life, Sherena Michelle Gilliam; six children, Le’Sean Cunningham, Delisha Cunningham-Pullins, Demique Bowers, Dyanna Gilliam-Bowers, Generr Williams, and Ciera Bowers; daughter-in-law Ayshia Cunningham; and son-in-law Moses Pullins.

Delbert was a grandfather, affectionately known as “Paw Paw,” to 14 grandchildren.

Delbert also leaves behind his Aunt Marcella, who was like a second mother to him, as well as other aunts and uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him tremendously.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 12:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.
