Mckenzie
September 17, 1925 – February 11, 2019
Rozel McKenzie was born on September 17, 1925, in Dooley County, Georgia to the late Abe and Georgia McKenzie. He departed this life on Monday, February 11, 2019, in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 93. He attended school in Cincinnati, Ohio; and served in the U.S. Navy where he received an Honorable Discharge. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years until his retirement.
He was a faithful member of the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church for many years, uniting under the leadership of Rev. David Glenn. He served in several ministries, such as the Deacon Ministry, the Trustee Board, Usher Board, the Van Ministry, the Fanetta Ross Choir, the Male Chorus, the Senior Ministry and other ministries. Deacon McKenzie loved the Lord and he loved his church. He was also an avid bowler; and was good at it. He loved to travel. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. No one will ever forget that beautiful smile and his witty sense of humor. Deacon McKenzie had a warm heart and he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna McKenzie; daughter, Rozonne McKenzie; step son, Arthur Flowers; siblings, Elijah (Ruby), Evelyn (Oscar), Etta, Albert and Beverly; daughter-in-law, Patricia McKenzie; sister-in-law, Helen Burrows and brother-in-law, Ammie Haynes.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 31 years, Betty McKenzie; sons, Gregory, Gary (Beverly) and Darrell McKenzie (Tanya); step daughter, Beverly Flowers; step son, Burnel Flowers (Gloria); daughter-in-law, Jeanette McKenzie; sisters-in-law, Tanya McKenzie, Dorothy Haynes and Christine Turner; brothers-in-law, Richard Goodwin, Joseph Burrows, Milton Harris and Joe Harris; seventeen grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews cousins; and his Beulah church family.
Visitation is from 9:30 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Zion Baptist Church, 630 Glenwood Avenue, (Avondale) Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 4523
