IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daryl Eugene
Smith
September 24, 1956 – October 28, 2020
Daryl Eugene Smith was born on September 24, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late William Smith Sr. and Fanny (Wilson) Smith. He accepted Jesus into his heart at an early age. He attended Glendale Elementary School, Princeton Middle School, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1974. Upon graduation, he got his first job at Cincinnati Bell as a mail clerk. He worked his way up to a circuit designer and worked for 35 years until his retirement in 2009.
Daryl was a gifted singer and musician, but most of all, he loved to praise and worship God. As a teen, Daryl taught himself how to play the organ and that gift would grow to become a life-long passion he would use to play at many churches around the region. He was always known to strike up a good praise medley that could get a congregation shouting and dancing for the Lord.
Daryl was part of the music ministry at his childhood church James Temple Church of God in Christ where he served as one of the organists for the church choirs. One of his proudest assignments was serving as the co-leader of James Temple's widely known children's choir- The Kids of the Kingdom, where he would proudly boast that his children's choir could not only sing but they could break out in 3-part harmony. Children at the church affectionately called him "Brother Daryl" (and they still do... even as adults)! He served as the minister of music for a host of different churches including Good News Church of God in Christ, Tryed Stone Missionary Baptist Church, and Jerriel Missionary Baptist Church. His final home church where he loved to be was Word of Deliverance Church in Forest Park, OH.
Daryl loved his children and his grandchildren. When he wasn't playing music, he was attending games and events that they had and then going to work to share about it. He loved having "Paw-Paw" sleepovers and making silver dollar pancakes for his grandchildren.
He departed this life surrounded by his family at Mercy Anderson Hospital on October 28, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his mother Fanny, his father William, and his step-mother Lucille.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: his children Brandon, Nicole (Jameen), Kevin (Amanda); his niece and fourth child Angela; seven grandchildren: Joshua, Lynnea, Jonathan, Aria, Anora, Kevin II, and Eric; brother William "Chipper" Smith, sister Debra; his forever friend Jacqueline, mother-in-love Norma, sisters and brother-in-love Beverly, Michelle, and Larry; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children, family, and friends.
