Darrell E. Smith Sr, who went Home on March 28, 2013, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Betty Jean and John Edward Smith on December 3, 1961. Darrell grew up in Avondale and attended Cincinnati Public Schools whee he played saxophone for the school band. After high school he moved to Kansas where he met and married Darlene. To this union he was blessed with three sons, William E. Smith, and Stewart A. Smith, and the late Darrell E. Smith, II. Darrell worked at Kansas State University as a food service supervisor. Darrell later returned to Cincinnati where he worked at Children's Hospital and University Hospital. Later, Darrell met and married his soul mate, Monica Smith, whom it married in 2009. Darrell is survived by his wife, Monica; sons, William and Stewart; stepson, Kirk Miller; sixteen grandchildren, and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Darrell always had a smile on his face and a kind word for all. He had an unforgettable personaility and was loved by many, many people. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, at Walker Funeral Home – Walnut Hills Chapel, 1025 E. McMillan Street, Walnut Hills, Cincinnati 45206. The Rev. Harry Phillips will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers: Frank Howard, William Smith, Kirk Miller, Nathan Goodin, Harry Phillips, Henry Long, and Timothy E. Nickerson. Honorary Pallbearers: Bernard Howard, Sr. Charles E. Thomas, Darrell E. Smith, II, Bernard Howard, Jr., and Stewart A. Smith. Repast: Friends and Family are welcome after Interment to Smith Residence, 2994 Windsong Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45251. In this time of bereavement, we still say God is in CONTROL.
