Cynthia Ruth McIntosh was born in Gary, Indiana, on May 8th, 1941, to the union of Frederick and Mattie Meux. She was the fourth of twelve children, one of whom succumbed at birth. Of the eleven surviving children, there were six boys and five girls. Cynthia was the second-oldest girl. Her father, a barber, and her mother, a homemaker, provided a loving and nurturing environment in which their children could grow. Music was always a part of the activities at home, and there, several of the children discovered and developed their musical gifts. There was an old, battered piano in the home that Cynthia began playing at the age of five. She went on to become very proficient on that piano, and would often play for her mother, who loved to listen to her play as her other children sang. Being raised in a God-fearing home, Cynthia became active in church at an early age, where she further refined her God-given gifts of playing the piano and singing.
Cynthia attended Froebel High School in Gary, but did not graduate with her class. She became a mother in her teens, and soon afterward married her son’s father, James Edward Turner. Together, the two of them had two more children – two daughters. Many years later, Cynthia returned to her academic studies and earned her General Equivalency Degree. She would later earn college credit by attending Indiana University Northwest. She pursued knowledge and sought truth, which led to her establishing a strong relationship with her Heavenly Father.
No matter what she did or where she went, her three children were always in tow. Cynthia was a loving, caring mother to her children. She taught them academics, homemaking skills, and most importantly – by her example – righteous living. The love she showed to her children at home extended outside of the home. Wherever the family lived, Cynthia served others through her kindheartedness and generosity.
An accomplished pianist, organist, songstress, and highly-respected Bible teacher, Cynthia used her gifts exclusively in service to God. She served in many capacities at the ministries where she worshipped during her adult life – bringing joy and inspiration to countless souls. Cynthia relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1998. For the last seventeen years of her music ministry – until her retirement – Cynthia served faithfully at Olivet Baptist Church in Cincinnati, alongside Servant Harold Crump, Pastor. She touched the lives of many within her family, among her fellow church members, and among those who some might have considered strangers. Cynthia dedicated her life in service to others – always seeking to help those around her by sharing biblical principles and offering words of wisdom and encouragement. She departed this life peacefully, at home, with loved ones surrounding her bedside.
Preceding Cynthia in death were her parents: Frederick and Mattie Meux; brothers, David and Charles; sisters, Barbara, Rossetta, Kathleen, and Algia; and granddaughter Darlene.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband David; son Darryl (Jacqueline); daughters Vanessa (Frederick) and Vernita; eight grandchildren: Darryl, Jr., Adrienne, Cynthia, Candace, Ciceley, Jason, Jennifer and Jhavae; brothers, Marion (June), Louis (Rosemary), Gerald (Nadine), and Preston (Linda); and a host of nephews, nieces, great-grandchildren, other relatives and dear friends.
