October 5, 1943 – August 29, 2015
Cleo Whaley was born on October 5, 1943 in Williamson, West Virginia to the late James Whaley Sr. and Fannie Whaley. He attended Liberty Middle School and later Liberty High School. Cleo was very active in sports including basketball, football and track & field. Living in a rural area Cleo and his family enjoyed many activities including blackberry picking, horse back riding, fishing and swimming in Tug River. In 1965, Cleo Whaley married Leatrice Joy Jefferies and from this union was born Mark Anton Cleo Whaley, daughters Ronda Lee Nash and Nicole Jean Moore (Patricia Pegram ). In 1984 he retired from Volvo White in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Detroit, Michigan to be closer to his family. There he started Whaley's Janitorial Service employing many family members and friends. In 1998 Cleo was baptized in Jesus' name at Christ Temple Apostolic Church located in Oak Park, Michigan. With Cleo there was never a dull moment. He was an outgoing, carefree, loving man. Cleo was the great person who could make anyone smile. He always stood strong encouraging others around him to create something better, change reality. Throughout his life Cleo was known as Keo, Clet, Eoh, etc. As an adult Cleo was an avid reader, he also loved bowling and golfing. Cleo joins his late brother Alonzo Whaley and daughter Ronda Nash. He leaves behind his son, Mark Whaley (Leia), daughters Nicole Moore, 14 grandchildren, Ryan, Erin, Jordan, Cameron, Arielle, Gabrielle, Mariah, Talyah, Isaiah, Noah, Anthony, Alec, Alyssa, and Aubrey, 1 great granddaughter Drew, brothers; Gene Whaley and Andrew Whaley (Mattie ); two sisters Dora Whaley – Harris and Connie Whaley- Bass and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A letter to Cleo, Cleo thank you for being a wonderful father to our son, Mark . You made him the great father he is today. Your attentiveness, compassion, thoughtfulness, and the quality time you spent with him. All of the summers and holidays you spent made him the great father he is. Thank you and we will all meet again in Heaven. You were My first Love, Leatrice Joy Visitation is from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm, on Friday, September 4, 2015, at the Walker Chapel - Mount Healthy, 7272 Hamilton Ave, Cincinnati (45231). Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at the Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church, 1585 Compton Road, Cincinnati (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
