IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clemmie Frances
Merritt
October 4, 1918 – September 25, 2002
Clemmie Frances Merritt was born on October 4, 1918 to the union of Joseph and Clemmie Haley, in Brewton, Alabama. She was the youngest of five siblings, three sisters and one brother, all have preceded her in death. She departed this life on September 25, 2002, at the Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio after a brief illness. She accepted Christ at an early age, at the Day Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. After moving to Cincinnati, she united in fellowship with the New Prospect Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. A. L. Collins where she served faithfully for sixty plus years till death. Clemmie was a quiet person with a sense of humor. She managed to touch the lives of everyone who knew her. She would help anyone who needed her help and never asked for anything in return. She would say it was better to give than to receive and giving is what she did so unselfishly. She loved her family unconditionally. She was an excellent cook and got great pleasure out of cooking and serving her family and friends that gathered around the table. She enjoyed life and looked forward to her vacations and travels with her beloved Willing Workers Club. She also loved the weekly Bible Study with the College Hill Cell Group and working with the Martha Circle Missionary Society. She leaves to cherish her memory two loving and devoted daughters, Levora Hudson and Marvina Merritt; one son, Calvin (Bunny) Merritt; three nieces, Lillian Walker of Columbus, Ohio, Carolyn Primus of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ann (Lamont) Daniels of Atlanta, Georgia; two adopted daughters Jerlene Wilcox and Beryl Riesenfeld of Cincinnati, Ohio; two step-daughters, Lavonne Merritt and Shirley Johnson of Cincinnati, four grandchildren, Greg (Lynne) Merritt, Heidi Thompson, Louis Lee and Marvin Merritt; step-grandchildren Pat Brown of Cincinnati, great-grandchildren, Michael Stewart, Marcus Merritt, Cory Revels, Danielle and Blake Thompson, Louis Lee Jr., Marvin Merritt Jr., Yolanda Thomas; great-nieces and nephews, Adrienne (William) Stevenson, Debra (Van) Viney and Charles (Sharon) Pritchet of Columbus, Ohio, Toni (Kenneth) Gwynn of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a host of great-great-grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Visitation 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 30, 2002, at New Prospect Baptist Church, 1829 Elm Street, Cincinnati, Ohio (45202). The service will immediately follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Damon Lynch, III, Officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
