Obituary

Sister Christine Wright was called home to the Lord on November 7, 2017, while she was a resident of The Christian Village at Mt. Healthy. She was a devoted Christian and faithful member of First New Shiloh Baptist Church for more than 60 years. During that time of devoted service, she served as a Pastor's aide, a member of the usher board and hospitality committee under the leadership of Pastor MJ Mangham and current Pastor Michael Cash. Christine Rozier was the youngest of nine children, born to Lee and Amelia Rozier. As a young child, she enjoyed spending time with her older brothers and doing everything they did. When they went fishing, she tagged along from a distance. When they needed an extra baseball player, she was always there to round out the team. What her brothers failed to realize is that they were instrumental in instilling a love of fishing and a passion for her beloved Cincinnati Reds that would remain with her the rest of her life. Also, the time spent with her brothers created enduring memories that she would reflect on and cherish throughout her life. Besides spending time with her brothers and enjoying the outdoors, Christine enjoyed reading at an early age, which served her well throughout her formal educational years and instilled in her a strong work ethic. During this time she was baptized and her spiritual faith developed and blossomed to the point that daily trials and tribulations never tested the durability of her faith. In the 1950's, Christine married William and became Mrs. Wright and the loving step-mother to his son, Ernest Wright. During this time she also obtained a meaningful career with the Hamilton County Human Services Department. Her marriage and career continued for more than 30 years until William passed away in 1984. Several years after his passing, she retired and began the next phase of her life. In the early years of her retirement, she enjoyed going to casinos, fishing, watching and attending Red's games. As she aged she began to slow down; however, she always took great pleasure in spending time with her brothers and close friends. As her brothers and friends passed away, she often wondered why God allowed her to continue on. The answer arrived in Clarence Simms, whose mother, Ruth Simms, was Christine's closest and dearest friend. Prior to Ruth's passing, Clarence promised that he would look after Christine's wellbeing. He surpassed that promise to the point of Christine saying that "Clarence added another chapter to her life by keeping her active, looking out for her best interest and always being there for her." Despite the age difference, Clarence succeeded in prolonging the quality of her life. She truly considered him her best friend and greatest confidant. Despite Christine's recent decline in health, that never deterred her from speaking her mind or sharing her thoughts. She was full of one liners that made you reflect and she had a hearty laugh that was contagious! Although her laugh and presence will truly be missed, the memories and love she provided will continue to endure. Christine Wright is survived by nieces and a nephew: Debra Teen, Michelle, John and Regina Rozier and a host of great nieces and nephews in Milwaukee, WI. She also leaves behind her dear friends in Ohio, Clarence Simms, John and Sheila Mason, Daisy and Billy Jones, friends at the Evanston Recreation Center and members of her spiritual family at First New Shiloh Baptist Church.
