IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlotte Sue
(Schumacher) Gibson
August 18, 1942 – July 31, 2020
Charlotte Sue (Schumacher) Gibson, 77, of Cincinnati, OH passed away peacefully July 31, 2020 with her family by her side.
Her family, friends and community were her life. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Bruce; her children, Jennifer (Scott) and Matt (Stephanie); grandchildren, Mason, Kaitlin, Julie, Madeline, and Oliver. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte and Leonard Schumacher and her brother, Patrick. She is survived by siblings Gene (Sue), Aubre, Bob, and Mary (Mike). Charlotte was a loving and devoted wife to Bruce; they had a beautiful partnership for 53 years.
Born in Ithaca, NY, the oldest daughter of six children. Charlotte got her Bachelor of Science degree from SEMU and worked as a research assistant at Barnes Hospital in St Louis, where she met the love of her life, Bruce. They started their journey together hiking, camping, bird watching, collecting fossils and enjoying nature everywhere they went. Their adventures took them to Vancouver, BC, and Madison, WI, before finally settling down in Cincinnati, OH in 1974.
Charlotte had an amazing life filled with many things she truly enjoyed. She was a wonderful wife and mother, first and foremost. Her faith was very important to her and she was very involved in both St. Bartholomew and Corpus Christi churches in Cincinnati, volunteering, greeting, and helping others through their network of care. Her Marriage Encounter group from St. Bartholomew was very special to both her and Bruce. They made many lifelong friendships through that. Helping others was a constant theme in her life and she practiced this by delivering Meals on Wheels and serving her community at Valley Interfaith Community Resource Center along with many other ways.
She also shared a lifelong hobby of fossil collecting with Bruce and they collected specimens from all over the country. Charlotte and Bruce did countless hours of volunteer work at the Cincinnati Museum Center working on the museum's invertebrate fossil collection. Music was special to her and her favorite singer of all time was John Denver, whose records were playing regularly at the house. She was a wonderful cook with Black Bottom Pie and Strawberry Pancakes being voted up as family favorites. As generous and giving as she was, she was also a very competitive game player, and would not hesitate to solidly thump you in one of her favorite games which included Sequence, Sorry, Boggle, Scrabble, and Uno.
Due to Covid-19, a celebration of Charlotte's life Celebration will have to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation to Valley Interfaith Community Resource Center where Charlotte donated her time and talents for over 30 years, or PSP.org which is an organization fighting the disease that claimed her life way too soon.
