IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlie Ray
Jordan
September 24, 1951 – May 24, 2025
Charlie Ray Jordan, born September 24, 1951, in Woodland, Alabama, was the son of Elizabeth Jordan Maffett and Robert Lane. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Ned Maffett, who played a steady and guiding role in his life.
Charlie was a devoted family man. He was reliable, hardworking, and hands-on. He enjoyed working with his hands and had a lifelong love for classic cars. In his younger years, he played baseball and even attended a baseball camp, showing talent and passion for the game. He also loved Western movies, wrestling, and sports. Ray never met a stranger. He was outgoing, easy to talk to, and made people feel at ease. A true people person.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Gertrude "Gwen" Thomas, his son Raymoine De'Carlos Thomas, stepdaughter Nakeshia Thomas, and stepson Antonio Thomas of Selma. He leaves behind four grandsons: Shavante Clark, Ke'Ron Brown, Raymoine Thomas Jr., and Rae'Vanta Thomas; two granddaughters: Ray Ray Thomas and Rayann Thomas; one great-grandson: Sha'maree Clark; and two great-granddaughters: Rae'lynn Thomas and Tysia Thomas.
He is also survived by his sister Gurishea Maffett of Atlanta; brothers John Maffett of California, Clarence Maffett of Atlanta, and Christopher Maffett of Alabama; and his nieces Dorothy "Girly Girly" Maffett, Lulu Maffett, Lattice Maffett, and Boo-Boo Maffett, all of Atlanta. His nephews include William Maffett of Florida, Tony Maffett, and David Maffett, both of Atlanta.
In addition, he leaves behind his sisters-in-law Para Revise and Shirley George, both of Selma; brothers-in-law Bobby Thomas of California and Arnold Thomas Jr. of Selma; nieces Jennifer Thomas of California, Jana of Chicago, and Wanda George; and his beloved aunts Ann Jordan and Mamie Westbrook, both of Atlanta.
Charlie also had many great-nieces and great-nephews who loved him dearly.
He will be remembered for his warmth, his love for family, and the way he brought people together. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the laughs remembered, and the bonds he helped create.
