>TO VIEW PRINT DOWNLOAD PHOTO TRIBUTE PROGRAM >TO VIEW PRINT DOWNLOAD FUNERAL PROGRAM Charles "Charlie" Lee Southall, Jr., was born on May 10, 1937 in Marion, Arkansas, the eldest of four to the union of the late Rev. Charles Lee, Sr. and Frances Southall. In the spring of 1943, when he was just 6 years old, his family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1955, he graduated from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio where he played baseball, football and basketball. He excelled in sports and was offered a football scholarship. He married his beloved wife Claudette Southall (Carroll) on September 17, 1955. He loved and cared for her until her passing in 2007. During their 52-year union, they were blessed with nine children and became the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. Charles took pride in his community, and in being a dedicated father to his children. He was a mentor and role model to other young men. He impacted the lives of hundreds of children and teens as a volunteer baseball, basketball and football coach in the Lincoln Heights and Tri-County communities. Between 1970 and 1982, he ran a newspaper delivery service. This business helped to instill a strong work ethic in his sons while also teaching responsibility to other young men who needed employment or guidance. Singing was his gift. He enjoyed singing and was invited to sing on many occasions for group events and in the church. He retired from Western Electric (now part of Nokia) in 1996 after 34 years of service. Those who knew Charles knew he was not a man who liked to sit still and was always working. So, in 1997, one year after his retirement, he started his own business, "Chuck's Landscaping Service." He was successful with building solid business relationships and gained respect from all those he served. Charles had a passion for politics and faithfully served the communities where he lived in various capacities over 45 years. He served as councilman for the Village of Lincoln Heights until 1981. He made contributions to the development of local governance and economic initiatives. His leadership as the Board Chair for the Lincoln Heights Health Center (now known as The Healthcare Connection) between 1973 and 1975 helped to benefit the lives of many. He was elected mayor of the Village of Lincoln Heights and served a 1-year term from 1983 to 1984 when a job relocation moved the family to Cleveland, Ohio. His dedication to public service continued in his retirement years. He was elected councilman for the city of Forest Park in 2011, where he served until his passing. Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent those beautiful flowers that we saw sitting there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any one could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much for whatever part. The children would like to express a special thank you to our uncles Virgil and Larry, aunts Jerline, Bertha and Grace for everything that was done to support us during this time.
